Overview

The Annapurna I Expedition is one of the very high expeditions, reaching an elevation of 8091 meters. The Annapurna I Expedition (8091m) is the 10th highest mountain in the world and one of the most technically difficult and dangerous peaks to climb. It's more than just climbing a mountain. Annapurna represents a range of large and impressive 13 peaks above 7,000mtrs which has remained the heart of mountaineers for decades. Indeed, it was named after the Hindu Goddess of Food and Nourishment, Annapurna.

The impressive Annapurna range unfolds its 4 very high peaks like a formidable barrier, standing out to the north of the Pokhara Valley. Annapurna I, the highest peak is located to the west of the Annapurna Sanctuary. It is one of the mountains whose ascent represents an incredible challenge, due to its immense difficulty, and the high technicality it requires to face avalanches, dizzying icy walls, and other seracs, under unpredictable weather,  not to mention that you have to climb to 8091m of altitude! However, in recent years, the number of accidents has decreased significantly.

For the approach to the base camp and the summit, the Yatri Trekking team usually chooses the West face and the North-West ridge, which corresponds to the safest route among all those possible. However, even the "safest" route on Annapurna I is still an extremely challenging and technical ascent that demands exceptional high-altitude skills and experience.  the Annapurna I expedition is not intended for amateurs, it requires significant logistics and great experience in high mountains for maximum preparation for progression under the highest altitudes.

Mt Annapurna I Expedition (8091m) – Conquer the Goddess of the Himalayas | 2025 FAQs

  • The finest climbing seasons for Mt. Annapurna are pre-monsoon and post-monsoon, during spring (from March to May) and autumn (from September to November). The weather then remains relatively settled, with clear skies and milder temperatures, thus minimizing risks at high altitudes associated with heavy precipitations and avalanches. Very experienced teams have made a few winter attempts. Still, again, the extreme cold and higher danger of avalanches have made it much less popular among the majority of climbers.

  • This expedition is intended for experienced climbers with prior experience on 6,000m-7,000m peaks and at least one successful ascent of 8,000m. Strong technical skills in ice and rock climbing are essential.

  • In Kathmandu and Pokhara, the team stays in delightful, three-star hotels. Once you are on the mountain, your accommodation will fluctuate from teahouse lodges to fully equipped Base Camp tents in which you ensure at least basic comfort and safety.

  • You will require the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit, a climbing permit for Annapurna I, and a TIMS card. We arrange these permits; please provide 2 passport-sized photos during registration.

  • Domestic flights between Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dana are included, along with organized road transfers. The helicopter flight to and from Base Camp is provided on a shared basis (private options available upon request).

  • Please refer to our detailed packing list above for high-altitude technical climbing that will cover all essential clothing, gear, and personal items.

  • Himalayan weather is quite unpredictable. Our itineraries are designed with buffer days, and our experienced team members are always facilitated with alternatives to be implemented, (including additional acclimatization) if necessary.

  • Yes, comprehensive travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, emergency evacuation, and medical expenses is strongly recommended.

  • Yes, absolutely. We have completely private and custom options for the expedition, designed around your experience and the kind of adventure you want. For a private mountain plan, contact us.

  • Tipping for Sherpas and porters is mandatory (minimum USD 1,300 for Sherpas and USD 600+ for Base Camp staff). Specific amounts will be communicated during the briefing.
