This festival is celebrated in the honor of Guru Rinpoche (Guru Padmasambhava), the great Indian tantric saint who brought the teachings of Buddhist Dharma from Tibet to Bhutan in the 8th century.

Tshechus are grand events where entire communities come together to socialize and witness religious dances. The festivals are generally preceded by rituals and dances performed by monks or trained Lamas in beautifully decorated silk costumes and paper masks with traditional instruments.
