Trek Pikey Peak with Dudh Kunda Trek | A moderate Trek in Lower Khumbu

A short and sweet moderate trek at Lower Everest Valley is located on the way to the Jiri Everest base camp trek.  Which called Pikey (4,070m) peak trek is one of the Highest hills in the Solu Region. Various Mountain ranges of the eastern and central Himalayas can be seen from there. Peaks like Mt. Everest (8848m), Makalu, Kanchenjungha (8586m), Annapurna (8091m), Gauri Shankar (7181m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse, Numbur (6959m), Sishapangma (8027m), Thamserku, Mera Peak (6470m) and other few ranges can be viewed from the top of the hill. Breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset can be another attraction for visitors. The trail passes through some of the most beautiful settlements and dense forests of Pine and Rhododendron and also can be observed some rare plants and animals such as wild bears, Panda, Ghoral, and so on. Tourists can experience the traditional livings of different ethnic groups like Sherpa, Chhetri, Tamang, and Gurung and can taste the varieties of local organic foods.

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Relax or explore the city. In the evening, we’ll conduct a trek briefing and welcome dinner.

Our day begins with a scenic drive linked through the countryside, offering stunning views. "We drive past terraced farms and through delightful landscapes to reach Dhap," a small settlement that is our first snip of the Himalayan range.

This day's trek includes an easy walk through rhododendron forest leading to small villages on the way. Dotted with Buddhist prayer flags and chortens, the route eventually brings us to the quaint village of Jhapre and its beautiful monastery.

The trail again moves steeply uphill through yak pastures and pine forests today. Outstanding views of the Numbur Himal range are further framed close to the base camp, with other peaks surrounding it.

We wake up early to hike to Pikey Peak, a vantage point offering one of the best panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and Annapurna. After enjoying the sunrise, we descend through scenic landscapes to Loding.

A beautiful forested trail leads us to Junbesi, a charming Sherpa village. We visit the Junbesi Monastery, one of the oldest in the region, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

We remain at Junbesi for a day of acclimatization to new heights. A visit to the Thupten Chholing Monastery is of special religious value in the eyes of the Buddhist community for having several hundreds of monks and nuns.

The trail we climb is mostly through forests, opening on ridges with stunning backdrops of snow-capped peaks. We continue to the Taksindu Monastery, located in a beautiful place with a collection of nice Buddhist edifices within a peaceful atmosphere.

Today, we leave the old trekking trail behind and head straight into that pure wilderness leading toward Dudh Kunda. Vegetation slowly changes to alpine meadow as we gain elevation, which goes on to Saharsbeni. This eventually forms the base of the sacred lake trek.

A challenging yet rewarding day! We trek to Dudh Kunda, the glacial lake revered by Hindus and Buddhists. The crystal-clear waters, surrounded by towering peaks, create a magical setting. After spending time at the lake, we descend back to Saharsbeni.

Last-Minute Bookings

✈️ For those with spontaneous travel plans, we accept last-minute bookings. However, we recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance to ensure availability of guides, accommodation, and trekking permits.

Minimum & Maximum Group Size

👥 Our fixed departures require a minimum of 2 trekkers to operate. For a private trek, we cater to solo travelers as well as larger groups. Discounts are available for groups of 5 or more.

Flight & Transport Considerations

🚙 The trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Dhap and ends with a return drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu. If you prefer to skip the long drive, we can arrange a helicopter transfer from Phaplu to Kathmandu at an extra cost.

Extra Days & Weather Buffer

⏳ Weather in the Himalayas can be unpredictable. We recommend adding an extra day or two to your itinerary to accommodate potential delays. This ensures you don’t miss your international flight home due to unforeseen circumstances.

How to Confirm Your Booking?

✅ To secure your spot, a 30% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining balance payable upon arrival in Kathmandu. Payments can be made via bank transfer, credit card, or cash.

Pikey Peak trek with Dudh Kunda Trek 2025 FAQs

  • Helicopter flights back to Kathmandu from Lukla can be pre-arranged at an extra cost. This facility is particularly popular during the peak season when road transfers may be lengthy.

  • This trek requires moderate to high fitness levels. Regular cardiovascular and strength training is recommended for all participants.

  • • Physical training: There should be cardio exercises, strength exercises, and practice hikes to develop strength and stamina.

    • Acclimatization: Make sure there is some acclimatization day or two so that you can get used to the high altitude and reduce the possibility of getting mountain sickness. Gear: You need to have the necessary trekking gear, which includes strong boots and warm clothing along with a good quality sleeping bag.

  • Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: This is required by all trekkers trekking into the region of Everest.

    Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit: Introduced in October 2018, this is the new permit that replaced the TIMS card for the Khumbu area.

    These permits shall be arranged by us.

  • Most accommodations will be in teahouses, which are standard in their services with beds, shared toilet facilities, and meals. You will be accommodated in a hotel in Kathmandu with more facilities and services.

  • The standard itinerary for this trek planning is for 20 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu, including days for acclimatization and possible weather interruptions.

  • The best seasons for trekking are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November)—stable weather affords clear views. Treks can also be done in monsoons (June- August) or even in winter, with added challenges such as heavy rains or snow.
     

  • This trek is considered strenuous due to its length, high altitudes, and challenging terrain. It is suitable for trekkers who are physically fit and have prior high-altitude trekking experience.

  • This is one of the most challenging and popular circuits in the Khumbu region, which allows trekkers to cross three high mountain passes: Renjo La (5,376m), Cho La (5,420m), and Kongma La (5,527m). This track enables one to view panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho-Oyu, and Makalu. It is meant for those who would want to experience something exotic and comprehensive in the Everest region.

  • he trek leaders are professional, licensed by the Government of Nepal, and other necessary support, including porters in the ratio of one for two trekkers. The company will be handling full logistics and permit requirements, including transport arrangements.

  •  A minimum of 2 trekkers is needed for fixed departure. We organize private treks for a solo trekker to any size group, with a discount for those in a group of 5 or more.

  • Private and custom treks are available, either suiting well with the laid out program or interested in personalized experiences

  •  Due to the unpredictable nature of the Himalayan weather, it is always recommended that you have an extra buffer day in your itinerary. This extra day may save you from missing your international flight back home if you have delays in flights from Lukla.

  • We recommend booking around 2-3 weeks in advance of your desired departure date. This is particularly important for the case of last-minute trekkers to secure guide services, permits, and accommodations.
